WHAT KIND OF YOGA IS THIS
Akshey teaches traditional Hatha yoga with a strong influence from the Iyengar method.
The practice is clear, structured, and attentive. Postures are not rushed. Time is given to understand how the body is moving, where effort is being used, where balance is off, where support would help.
Props are used when they serve the practice. Blocks, belts, chairs, walls, bolsters, and blankets. These are not used to make the practice easier, but to make it more intelligent, safer, and more precise.
The aim is not to force the body into shapes. The aim is to understand the body better.
WHY THIS PRACTICE HELPS
Many people in the Lower Mainland are used to movement through gyms, fitness classes, sports, and high intensity training. These can be useful, but they do not always teach you how to feel what is happening inside your own body.
This practice helps you slow down enough to notice. Where you are tight. Where you are weak. Where you are overworking, or collapsing, or simply not paying attention. Over time, the practice builds better posture, stronger and more mobile joints, breath awareness, and a steadier relationship with your own body.
The work is physical, but it is not only physical. It trains attention through the body.
WHO IS THIS FOR
Beginners, experienced practitioners, and people returning to yoga after a break.
It may be especially useful if you:
feel stiff from sitting, driving, parenting, or desk work
train at the gym but want better mobility and body awareness
want to improve posture and alignment
feel disconnected from your body
want individual attention rather than a large studio class
want yoga that feels grounded, practical, and intelligent
are recovering from burnout or stress
No previous yoga experience is needed. You do not need to be flexible to begin.
ABOUT AKSHEY
Akshey has been teaching yoga for over 15 years.
His personal practice began in Uttarkashi, in the Himalayan region near the source of the Ganges. He later studied formally at the Bihar School of Yoga and continued scriptural study with the monastic faculty of the Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh.
He is the founder and lead teacher of Yoga Mandir Goa, a traditional yoga school in South Goa, India, where he teaches daily classes and trains yoga teachers.
Akshey’s teaching draws strongly from the Iyengar method, with a focus on alignment, props, anatomy, and careful observation. His classes are known for being clear, attentive, and precise. They are also, quite often, surprisingly funny.
He teaches yoga as careful study of the body and mind.
