Drop-in classes are the living heart of Yoga Mandir, welcoming everyone —— whether new to yoga or experienced. Set against the backdrop of nature’s own soundtrack, with birdsong and gentle wildlife sounds, each session feels deeply rooted in the landscape.
With roots in traditional Hatha Yoga principles, we thoughtfully use props like wooden blocks, bolsters, ropes, belts, and chairs to safely nurture strength and flexibility. Each class invites practitioners into a deeper connection with their practice, as cues and mindful adjustments reveal the unique alignment and impact of each asana on the body. Together, we learn and grow through shared practice, closing each session with centering breathwork.

yoga nidra
Yoga Nidra, or "psychic sleep", is a transformative practice developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, founder of the Bihar School of Yoga. Rooted in the ancient tantric nayasa technique, Yoga Nidra guides practitioners through different states of consciousness, offering profound support for managing stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia—issues common in today’s fast-paced world.
According to yogic philosophy, we experience four states of consciousness:
Jagrit: the waking, conscious state
Sushupti: the subconscious, including dreams
Nidra: deep sleep, often equated with the unconscious
Turiya: the transcendent state, a pure state of witnessing
Unlike traditional seated meditation, Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down in shavasana, allowing the body to rest fully as the mind remains receptive, absorbing each guided cue on a subconscious level. Yoga Nidra gently leads us through the first three states of consciousness, gradually cultivating a witnessing awareness.
While each teacher brings their own approach to Yoga Nidra, here at Yoga Mandir, we honor the traditional methods of Swami Satyananda Saraswati, sharing this practice with our students in its authentic form.
Through Yoga Nidra, we often encounter inner landscapes of our fears and challenges. With a patient, conscious approach, we nurture a witnessing mindset, helping us view our experiences without attachment —— a powerful step on the path to inner peace.
PRANAYAMA
Pranayama is the practice of extending and refining the breath. It is subtle work that requires deeper perception of the physiological body and refined control of the spine, torso, and ribcage musculature.
At Yoga Mandir, we approach this control gradually, using a methodical, prop-supported practice. Belts, blocks, bolsters, and yoga chairs are used to lift, open, and support the body — allowing the breath to move more freely and consciously.
We begin with simpler, softer forms of pranayama, such as Ujjayi and Viloma, and progress over time toward more complex techniques like Bhastrika and Nadi Shodhana.
These classes are quieter and more inward than asana —— an invitation to settle, listen, and observe the subtle intelligence of the breath.
